The car has been painted in its current shade of red since the 1980s. Significant modifications were undertaken by a previous owner in the 1980s, including replacing the front end with a fiberglass body section and refinishing the interior and exterior. The modifications include a custom-built 1.6L dual-port engine, Porsche speedometer and tachometer gauges, re-upholstered door cards, and modern DOT-approved seats from a non-VW car. Additionally, a Nardi Torino steering wheel and an Audivox radio have been installed.

The current owner has continued maintenance, addressing wiring issues, headlight and wiper switch repairs, and installing new carburetor jets and tune-ups.

The convertible top is in good condition, providing both functionality and style. It features a clean and intact rear window, ensuring clear visibility when the top is up. The convertible mechanism operates smoothly, allowing for easy transition between open and closed configurations.

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, produced between 1955 and 1974, was a collaborative effort between Volkswagen, who supplied the running gear and chassis, and Italian designer Ghia, who provided the styling. Karmann, a German coachbuilder, assembled the vehicle. The Karmann Ghia was marketed as a stylish and affordable alternative to more expensive sports cars of the era. Its timeless design and reliable performance have made it a favorite among classic car enthusiasts.

This particular Karmann Ghia comes with a red matching Karmann Ghia-branded suitcase, which complements the car's classic aesthetic. This vehicle represents a unique blend of vintage charm and modern functionality, making it a standout choice for classic car enthusiasts.

The vehicle exhibits some oil drops, tires of unknown date, and a missing washer fluid system. There is no heat, and shifting into 2nd gear can be challenging, requiring double clutching. Rust is starting on the rear quarter panels and door panels, adding to the retro patina. The most recent service was on May 27, 2024, which addressed carburetor issues and included the installation of new idle jets. Service records date back to 1986, with notable services including generator replacement, voltage regulator replacement, electrical sorting, and conversion of the electrical system from 6V to 12V.
