This is a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible finished in it's factory colour combination - Twilight Turquoise (paint code #5) over a matching turquoise blue vinyl interior that was upgraded at the factory to a deluxe “pony” interior. It is powered by its original inline-6 cylinder engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The first generation Mustang was part of a new class of compact muscle cars called pony cars, and was internally designated by the American manufacturer as the T5. 22,000 orders were placed for the car on the very first day of its market release, and to this day Ford has sold over 10 million mustangs of all variants, making this example a very early collectible. This Mustang is currently registered in Quebec with a clean and (Normal) status. The odometer reads approximately 38k-miles and the seller mentions that this is a numbers matching example.
For US bidders, this Mustang is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.
The long hood and short deck on this classic 2-door convertible is a readily identifiable feature of the Ford Mustang. Its white vinyl top with a clear plastic window is powered and folds neatly behind the rear bench seats. It has chrome wrap-around bumpers, and Mustang’s running horse emblem features prominently on the grille, fenders, and beneath the trunk lid, along with Ford and Mustang script. The recessed grille has a honeycomb pattern behind the single chrome bar with the emblem at its centre - a “horse and corral” design with four bars encircling. The car is 68 inches wide, 51 inches high, and 182 inches long, with a wheelbase of 108 inches and a curb weight of 2,860 lbs. The weight distribution is 53/47 front to rear. It rides on optioned 14” steel wheels with full Mustang style covers wrapped in Hankook Optimo H724 white sidewall tires. Disc brakes are found at all four corners.
The interior cabin of this four-seater Ford Mustang comes equipped with adjustable front bucket seats and rear bench seats upholstered in turquoise vinyl with ribbed cream coloured vinyl inserts, blue piping, and running horse embossments. Only 5,338 Mustangs assembled in 1965 had this deluxe pony interior upgrade. Further embellishments unique to the pony interior include the integral armrests, rounded gauges, sun visors, and floor console. Rear seat belts were an option at the time and are not present in this example. The wide and sporty three-spoke Ford Mustang steering wheel fronts a strip-style speedometer with fuel level and temperature gauges on either side. Wall-to-wall carpeting is blue to match the upholstery and has running horse designs.
This front-engine rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang is powered by a 3.3-liter “Thriftpower” inline-6 paired to a 3-speed automatic transmission. This is equipped with a 1-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 120 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 190 lb-ft of torque at 2,400 rpm when new. The strong, lightweight chassis design of the Ford Mustang is derived from the Ford Falcon and Fairlane. This unitized platform-type frame has welded box-section side rails with welded crossmembers and a torque box to stiffen its construction and better absorb bumps and body roll forces.
