This second generation S-Class has a Smoke Silver Metallic finish with dark silver rocker panels and chrome plated bumpers. It has a chrome grille adorned with a Mercedes-Benz three pointed star. Large flush halogen headlights come equipped with washers and are framed by wraparound amber turn lights. The centre of the hood is raised and the side view mirrors have body coloured housings. The taillamps on the 560SEL are fluted to maintain their visibility when dirty. The trunk lid is adorned with a three pointed star and a 560SEL emblem. This 560SEL rides on 15” telephone dial-style wheels wrapped in Goodyear Nordic tires, 205/55R15 all around with four-wheel ABS disc brakes. Some paint bubbling is present around the fenders, and visible in the gallery. The 560SEL is 207 inches long, 72 inches wide, and 56 inches high, with a 121 inch wheelbase and a curb weight of 4,100 lbs.

The 560SEL interior is black with burled walnut wood trim on the doors, dash, and console. Seating for five is upholstered in premium leather, and the door inserts are heat pressed. Both front and rear seats are powered and heated (an optional upgrade) with memory, and the windows are powered. This sedan comes equipped with cruise control, air conditioning, a rear window defogger, and a manual sunroof. Both front and rear passengers have access to arm rests and storage pockets. A black four-spoke Mercedes-Benz steering wheel fronts an analog instrumentation panel with a 260 km/hr speedometer at the centre. Fuel economy, fuel level, oil level and temperature gauges are placed to the left, and a 7K rpm tachometer is at the right with an inset analog clock. The steering column is electronically adjustable. Further convenience and safety features include courtesy lights, a theft deterrent system, dual airbags, traction control, and seat-belt pretensioners.

This RWD 560SEL is powered by a 5.6-liter SOHC V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It is factory rated at 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque when new. The claimed top speed and zero-to-60 mph are 242 km/hr and 7.2 seconds. The M117 is a lightweight cast iron block with aluminium heads and Bosch Jetronic fuel injection. The 560SEL employs self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension.
