Description
This is a 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL350 which is powered by a 3.7-liter V6 paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission. This rwd configured convertible R230 model is an unmodified Japanese market example and is said to have a clean Canadian title. It is currently registered in Alberta but located in Montreal, Quebec. The seller acquired it approximately one year ago and subsequently moved to Montreal, QC with the SL. The seller mentions that an out-of-province inspection would be paid for on the seller’s behalf for buyers local to the province of Quebec. The SL is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (paint code 744U). This seller mentions he is the second known owner after purchasing it, from the believed to be original owner in Japan.
Being a Japanese-spec SL and because it is not older than 25 years, this SL is not importable to the US. Formula Auctions however can arrange transport for a successful buyer Canada-wide should they require it.
The R230 Mercedes-Benz roadster was the first SL to feature a retractable metal hardtop, providing some noise reduction in the cabin. The SL also features Bi-Xenon headlights, headlight washers, power-folding side mirrors, functional “aluminum look” fender/hood vents, fog lights and chrome badging around the body.
The original 17” wheels are 7-spoke alloys, wrapped in Michelin primacy tires that measure 255/45/R17 at all four corners. These tires were said to have been installed in 2020. Two keys, the owner’s manual, and service records are included in the sale. The seller notes imperfections including some rock chips on the front end (inline with the mileage), curb rash on the wheels, and the front grill is cracked. The seller mentions that both batteries were replaced in 2020 and an oil change was completed in the spring and autumn of 2021.
The interior is trimmed in black/anthracite leather on the seats, door cards, centre console and dash. Burl wood accents complete the interior trimming. Factory equipment includes 12-way power adjustable and heated front seats, automatic dual-zone climate control, power windows, Electronic Stability Programming (ESP), cruise control, AM/FM sound system with 6-disc CD changer and a navigation system. The seller mentions some wear is visible on the seat leather, and a tear on the passenger side door card.
Keeping the SL sure footed is a conventional spring and shock suspension system unlike the SL500 which has the troublesome (ABC) hydraulic suspension system. This allows the SL350 to steering free from many high-cost suspension maintenance. Braking is managed by 4-pot front and 2-pot rear callipers with drilled rotors upfront.
The SL350 is equipped with a 3.7-liter V6 Mercedes-Benz M112 engine rated at 242 horsepower with 258-lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission with comfort and sport modes selectable via the centre console.
