Description
Located in Kleinberg, Ontario, this is a fully restored numbers matching 1983 Honda Z50R mini dirt bike finished in Blaze Red (paint code #R-120). Red and yellow trim is used for the side covers, fenders, and fork cover. It is powered by an 49 cc air-cooled OHC single-cylinder four-stroke engine with a 3-speed automatic clutch transmission. The Honda Z50R was produced by the Japanese manufacturer from 1979 to 1999, and developed for dirt biking on a track as opposed to a trail. It was often used as a light-weight mini racing motorcycle. Sales of the Z50R totalled 8,778 units in 1983. This example has undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration, with all original parts used, except for the seat.
For US bidders, this Honda Z50 is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here. This bike will be sold on a bill of sale.
This Z50R is finished in Blaze Red paint with a matching steel backbone frame, fuel tank, and high-mount plastic fenders.
The fuel tank has classic Honda script and a flying wing design. It also has a chrome, vented gas cap with a black breather tube that rests on the centre of the chrome steering stem nut.
The chain guard and upswept exhaust are matte black, and the number plates are yellow. The Z50R has an inverted fork, twin progressive rear shocks, a cross-braced handlebar, and a side stand.
The black solo seat has a letter Z logo in white. The 1983 Z50R was the last Honda mini trail to have a black seat. Drivers' foot pegs can be kept upright or kicked up.
Two-piece 8” steel wheels finished in silver are wrapped in off-road tires. Front and rear drum brakes provide stopping power.
The cross-braced handlebars are mounted on an inverted fork. These have black grips and a twist-grip throttle, ignition switch, and brake lever are mounted on the right. The kick starter pedal is on the right. The kickstand and gear change pedal are on the left.
This Honda Z50R is powered by a rebuilt 49 cc air-cooled OHC single-cylinder four-stroke engine with a Keihin carburetor. This is rated at 2.5 horsepower and 2 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheel with a 3-speed semi-automatic centrifugal clutch transmission, utilising a two-up shift pattern and a drive chain. The bike’s high-mount exhaust system is equipped with a perforated heat shield and bolts to the right side of the engine. Suspension is made up of an inverted telescopic fork and twin progressive shocks mounted to the swingarm. The seller notes that the motor was completely disassembled and rebuilt with new internals as needed, and the cases were vapour blasted. The bike has not been started since the restoration.
