Description
This 1978 Citroen GS is believed to be one of just 10 GS models imported to Canada for that model year, making it an exceptionally rare find. The seller highlights its predominantly rust-free condition, adding to its uniqueness. The pre-1979 GS "fastback" body design incorporates a Kamm tail, partially enclosed rear wheels, and other aerodynamic features to achieve a low drag coefficient and reasonable cruising speeds, despite its modest power. The owner has made some modifications to this DS, including the addition of a light bar, racing-style seats, mudflaps, and an aftermarket tachometer. Currently registered in Quebec, Canada, the GS holds an active and normal registration status.
For US bidders, this Citroën is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.
Featuring a blue exterior with white vinyl detailing on all panels, this GS is equipped with refinished white stock wheels and polished hub caps, currently fitted with Michelin tires.
The body displays blocky stacked taillights, intact headlights with clear lenses, and a louvered rear window diffuser that serves both as a spoiler and sun blocker.
Mudflaps are featured along with a trailer hitch. The exhaust is expelled out of a single exit muffler.
The interior, more conventional than later GS models, presents a single-spoke wheel, horizontally oriented buttons, and a dash-mounted emergency brake handle. The padded dash appears free of cracks, and the center console and door panels show minimal distortion in photos.
Clear instrumentation includes a standard speedometer (replacing the earlier drum unit), bright lettering, a variety of warning lights, and a five-digit odometer indicating 86k kilometers although has been rolled over once before.
The GS offers ample cargo space, especially with the rear seats folded, as showcased in the gallery. Additionally, an aftermarket tachometer has been added to the dashboard.
Beneath the hood, a naturally-aspirated 1,200cc flat-four engine delivers 65 horsepower to the front wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission.
