Description
This is a 1953 Chevrolet Corvette pedal car finished in white over a red interior located in Surrey, BC. This children’s pedal car is #452 of a 2003 limited release by Pedal Car Factory of Mayville, New York. An officially licensed product of General Motors Corporation, the limited run was initiated to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette, which was America’s first-ever mass-produced fibreglass automobile. This example was used as a display piece before the seller acquired it in 2021.
The seller notes that it is brand new and has never been used. The original packaging for the car, an owners manual, and a certificate of authenticity are included in the sale.
This Corvette pedal car has a polished ABS plastic body over a tubular steel frame. ABS stands for acrylonitrile butadiene styrene; a thermoplastic polymer with very good impact, heat, chemical, and abrasion resistance offering dimensional stability, tensile strength, surface hardness, and rigidity. The car’s pneumatic rubber whitewall tires are 9.5 inches wide and the wheels have chrome Corvette branded covers.
Its headlights have cross hatch decals, Corvette badging adorns the header panel, and the car is fitted with a faux windshield. The car is 55 inches long, 28 inches wide, and 25 inches high, weighing 75 lbs.
The cockpit features a red ABS polymer 5-way adjustable bucket seat. The car is perfect for ages 4 to 10, or for a child weighing up to 85 lbs. The white plastic steering wheel is 10 inches across with a Corvette branded centre cap.
A handbrake is situated to the driver’s right, a gear shifter is mounted in the centre, and the dash is equipped with a faux instrument panel featuring oil, temperature, tach, fuel, battery, and speed gauges. A riveted VIN tag is also mounted on the dash reading E53PCF0332 in engraved markings.
An ABS floor panel sits atop the pedal car’s drive chain and wheel wells. The pedal crank is ball bearing-driven and twin foot pedals and a bicycle sprocket complete the system. The wheels have ball-bearing hubs on heavy spindles and axles and tubeless pneumatic tires. The braking system can be engaged with the right hand brake lever or by back-pedalling. A hand-operated coaster lever switches between neutral and drive.
