Description
This is a 1998 Mazda RX-7 RS-R 30th Anniversary Edition finished in Sunburst Yellow over a black cloth interior. This hatchback coupe is powered by a single turbo, fresh-built bridge port 13B rotary engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This 30th Anniversary is a limited produciton example that is one of just 500 produced. The RX-7 is currently registered in Alberta with an Active and (Normal) registration status, with 124K-km (77k-miles) showing on the digital odometer.
The seller notes that this RX-7 has a production date of December 23rd, 1997, so for US bidders it is now eligible to be imported under the 25-year rule, meaning this RX-7 is directly importable to the US without modification as it is now EPA & DOT exempt. The third generation, or Series 8 (internally designated FD) Mazda RX-7 was produced by the Japanese automaker from 1998 to 2002. Fitted now with a single Borg Warner EFR 9180 Turbocharger, it also had improved intercooling and radiator cooling made possible by a redesigned front fascia with larger air inlets.
This special 30th Anniversary example has been equipped with a carbon fibre front lip and carbon fibre side skirts for improved aerodynamics and downforce. Its headlights are custom units with carbon fibre housings, and Mazda emblems etched in the glass, and it rides on Varrstoen ES3 wheels. A Wilwood Big brake kit has been installed up front. The windows are tinted, and the hood, front fascia, and front quarter panels have been protected with paint protection film. The car’s original wheels, tires, front lip, headlights, tag plate, fog lights, and a brake kit with new rotors, pads, and callipers are included in the sale.
Two Mazda RX-7’s appeared in the Fast and the Furious film franchise; a 1993 RX-7 in 2 Fast 2 Furious, and a 1997 RX-7 in Tokyo Drift, making this a popular car for modification and street racing enthusiasts. The interior of this 1998 Mazda RX-7 RS-R 30th Anniversary Edition features a right-hand drive three-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel. This fronts an analog instrument panel with a 9K redline tachometer which bears a 30th Anniversary inscription, and a 180 km/hr speedometer.
The shifter and emergency brake are mounted on the centre console to the driver's left. Above this a Pioneer cd player and climate controls are integrated into the dash, with three aftermarket gauges sitting atop the dash. The pedals are drilled aluminium, and the carpets bear RX-7 stitching. The Mazda RX-7 RS-R has a curb weight of 2,822 lbs.
