Description
This is a 1957 NSU Prima D finished in red with chrome brightwork and twin tan coloured seats. It’s powered by a 146 cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The NSU Prima D was first unveiled at the Brussels International Motorcycle Show in 1956. This 66 year old all-original survivor is completely unmodified and yet in great condition, with only 2,876 original kms - a wonderful starting point for the right buyer to bring it back to its original glory.
For US bidders, this NSU Prima D is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.
The fuel tank on this NSU Prima D is located between the two seats; it has a capacity of 7.3 litres. The front shield has a NSU logo and NSU Prima D script in chrome.
The seats are saddle shaped, and the rear holds a luggage rack and spare tire that sits above the tail light. The headlight housing and fender gills are chrome.
The bike has a torsion-resistant tubular steel frame and an all-steel body on rubber buffers. It has a step-through design typical of most scooters, and two swing saddles. The side panels can be removed.
The wheels are interchangeable, with the spare wheel capable of replacing either the front or back wheel. Expanding drum brakes are used at both ends.
Bowden cables are concealed by profiled pressed steel handlebars, beneath which is the dashboard - this houses a speedometer, starter light, ignition switch, and a button for the choke and petrol dab actuation. A twist grip on the left handle changes gears.
This NSU scooter is 75 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 37 inches high, with a dry weight of 271 lbs.
The NSU Prima D is powered by a frame-mounted, fan-cooled, single-cylinder two-stroke 146 cc engine. This is installed inside the fairing in front of the rear wheel, and it’s rated at 6.2 horsepower and 3 lb-ft of torque when new.
Power is sent to the rear wheel with a 3-speed multi-plate clutch transmission, utilising a cardan shaft and bevel gears. The bike’s top speed is 80 km/hr.
The rear wheel is guided on a swing arm with a helical compression spring and hydraulic shock absorber. The front wheel is mounted on a short telescopic swing arm.
