This is a 1986 Jaguar XJ12 Vanden Plas finished in Gunmetal grey Metallic over a grey leather interior. This full-size luxury sedan is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 engine mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. This top-trim XJ12 is currently registered in British Columbia with a clean and (Normal) status and only approx. 42K-km on the odometer. The high performance V12 version of the XJ was first introduced in 1972, and was the only mass-produced 12-cylinder sedan in the world at that time. Jaguar’s XJ series is known for its superior build quality and reliability. This well-preserved Series III XJ12 is offered for sale with an accident-free history, as evidenced by the included recent Carfax.

The Series III XJ12 was available from 1979 to 1992. This high-powered sedan was subtly re-designed in 1979 by Pininfarina to include flush door handles, a vertical vaned grille, and a revised roofline, increasing the car’s daylight opening area. This example is further equipped with a sunroof, an option first available with the Series III.
The XJ12 has chrome-topped black rubber bumpers with integrated turn signal lighting. Jaguar’s leaping cat emblem is found at the front fenders, and Jaguar/Vanden Plas nameplates are placed on the boot lid above dual exhaust outlets. The car rides on 15” Jaguar badged alloy pepper pot wheels wrapped in Pirelli Cinturato P5 tires, P215/70R15 all around with 4-wheel power disc brakes, vented at the front, sold at the rear. The XJ12’s dimensions measure 200 inches long, 70 inches wide, and 54 inches high, with a 113 inch wheelbase and a curb weight of 4,074 lbs.
Vanden Plas denotes the top-trim line for the Jaguar XJ12 Series III, and the cabin of this example does not disappoint. It is upholstered in grey Connolly leather with genuine burled walnut wood trim on the padded dash, doors, and console, with a leaping Jaguar emblem centering the console, which also displays a digital clock, an AM/FM radio and cassette player, and automatic climate controls.
The floor is covered with Wilton wool carpets, and rear passengers have access to climate controls and swivelling reading lamps. A two-spoke Jaguar steering wheel fronts an analog gauge cluster with a 7K rpm tachometer to the left and a 260 km/hr speedometer to the right. Steering is a power assisted rack and pinion design. The sunroof, windows, mirrors, and antenna are powered. This XJ12 Vanden Plas is further equipped with cruise control, a tool kit, and a trip computer.
This 5.3-liter V12 engine features Lucas-Bosch L-Jetronic electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 285 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg Warner BW66 three-speed automatic transmission and limited-slip differential. The XJ12 has a theoretical top speed and zero-to-100 km/hr of 230 km/hr and 8.4 seconds, respectively. The seller mentions the brakes were recently replaced at the front including rotors and pads, along with new wheel bearings and an oil change.
