Description
This 1966 Volkswagen Beetle was retrofitted with an electric powertrain by Electric Vehicles Conversion in Colombia before it was acquired and imported to Canada by the selling dealer in 2022.
Power is provided by a 72-volt battery system connected to a brushless asynchronous AC electric motor paired with a clutch less four-speed manual transaxle. Painted in a cream exterior finish, the vehicle also features projector-style headlights with illuminated rings, pop-out rear windows, running boards trimmed with rubber, "electric" badging, and chrome-finished blade-style bumpers.
For US bidders, this Beetle is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.
The 15" steel wheels are painted to match the body color and adorned with polished trim rings and VW-stamped hubcaps. These wheels are equipped with America radial tires. Braking capabilities are offered through a four-wheel drum brake system.
Inside the car, you will find low-back front bucket seats and a rear bench seat upholstered in orange vinyl, complete with white piping for a coordinated appearance. The door panels are also trimmed to match the interior color scheme.
The electric conversion was meticulously performed by Electric Vehicles Conversion in Colombia and includes a 72-volt, 10-kWh NMC battery system discreetly housed in the front trunk.
The cabin includes several notable features such as an electronic accelerator pedal, a digital display mounted below the dashboard, a storage basket situated on the transmission tunnel, practical door pockets, a passenger grab handle, and a locking glove compartment. The rubber front floor mats have displayed some discoloration over time.
The two-spoke ivory steering wheel boasts a chrome horn ring and is adorned with a Wolfsburg crest center cap. It faces a 140-km/h VDO speedometer and an EVCO-branded battery status display.
The five-digit mechanical odometer currently registers 14k kilometers (~9,000 miles), with approximately 50 kilometers added by the selling dealer. The total mileage is uncertain.
This battery system powers a rear-mounted brushless asynchronous AC electric motor. Additional components incorporated in the conversion are a DC/DC converter responsible for maintaining the 12-volt battery and a 2.5-kWh battery charger. Power is seamlessly transmitted to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, and noteworthy is the absence of a clutch, requiring gear shifting after releasing the accelerator.
