Description

This is a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 230 sedan finished in Papyrus White (paint code #717). It is currently located on Vancouver Island where it is now listed here in a private-sale offering. The original powertrain of the 230 was an inline-six cylinder 2.3L engine, however this 230 has had a 2.8L engine and transmission from a 280 retrofitted in its place. A distributor cap and seals, brake callipers, air filter housing and hoses, an aftermarket stereo, and the original 230 engine and transmission are among the spare parts included in the sale. The original manual and various other manufacturers' literature is included in the sale as well.

For US bidders, this Mercedes-Benz is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.

This W114 model Mercedes Benz has a length of 184.5 inches and base curb weight of 2943 lbs. The car sits on 14” steel body colored wheels and Motomaster AWII 185/65R14 tires. It is equipped with disc brakes all around. Mercedes-Benz and 230 chrome badging is visible on the rear of the car. Its grill stays attached to the hood when the hood is lifted. Its headlamps are round and appear above orange fog lights.

Vertical rubber bumpers are attached to the horizontal chrome bumper on either side of the grill. The seller notes that the windshield has a visible, but repaired rock chip, and the paint is mostly original with some chipping near the grill and under the bumper valance at the rear. The exterior of the 230 features chrome trim around various parts of the exterior.

The large Mercedes-Benz badged steering wheel fronts a combined temperature, tank, and oil gauge to the left and a speedometer to the right. The mechanical odometer shows 29,900 miles although true mileage is unknown. The original AM/FM radio is said to be functional as is the clock. The storage compartment beneath the passenger's side of the dash locks by key. Seats are upholstered in teal green M-tex which matches the carpets. The centre console and dash are dark grey, and the headliner is beige cloth.

The seller notes that the rear seat shows some wear and was previously repaired. The shifter is located on the centre console, which was a first at the time for a Mercedes saloon.

This Mercedes-Benz 230 features a 2.8L inline six cylinder engine that sends power to the rear wheels solely.  The 280 engine utilises a pair of twin Zenith carburetors. The chassis consists of a ball joint independent front suspension with unequal-length A arms and coil-over shocks, with semi-trailing arms in the rear. Walk around videos, undercarriage photos and paint depth metre records are included in the gallery below.
