Description

This 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS (North American Specification) was originally sold new in Japan before being imported to Canada and subsequently acquired by the current selling dealer in 2010. Having remained in the dealer’s private collection since then, this Defender is now being offered to the market for the first time. Finished in a classic white exterior with gray cloth and vinyl interior, it is powered by a robust 4.0-liter V8 engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Notable features include 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, manual crank front windows, rear jump seats, a pop-up sunroof, air conditioning, an Alpine head unit, and a locking storage box.

The vehicle's mileage and accident-free history are documented with a clean Carfax report and a Carvx.jp report. It is currently registered under the dealer’s name in Quebec with an active and normal registration.

For US bidders, this defender is is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport in Canda/USA and Import, please visit our Transport/Import page here.

The exterior features original aluminum body panels finished in "Alpine White Solid," complemented by black wheel arch flares. The seller confirms that the exterior is entirely original, with no modifications, and all body panels are believed to retain their original paint. Noted imperfections include minor surface corrosion around the bolts on the front bush bar, a small chip on the driver’s side mirror arm, and minor paint imperfections on several door hinges. A unique rear plaque designates this vehicle as #046 of a limited series of Japan-specification NAS Defenders produced for the model year.

It rides on 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires, with a matching spare mounted on the swing-out rear tire carrier. Power-assisted disc brakes are fitted at all four corners.

Inside, the cabin features patterned gray cloth upholstery with vinyl sides and backing on the front bucket seats. Amenities include air conditioning, power windows, and a locking center console. The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer displays 16k miles, which is verified by both Carfax and Carvx.jp reports.

The rear of the cabin is equipped with two inward-facing jump seats, upholstered in matching gray cloth, and a rubber-trimmed roll cage. The headliner is finished in gray cloth, and the roof is removable for an open-air driving experience.

Under the hood, this Defender is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 engine, factory-rated at 182 horsepower and 233 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional underside photos in the gallery showcase the drivetrain. Recent maintenance performed by an authorized Land Rover technician includes a battery replacement in November 2023, an oil change at 15,657 miles in August 2021 (with a fresh oil change to be provided for the buyer), replacement of spark plugs and wires in August 2022, and the replacement of the rear differential upper ball joint and throttle cable in January 2022.
