Description
This is a 1961 Chevrolet C1 Corvette finished in black Lacquer paint with Inca silver coves and a matching black, folding soft-top. This is one of approximately 11,000 corvettes produced for the 1961 model year. This Corvette is being sold by the current owner privately and it is currently registered in the province of Saskatchewan a with an active and (Normal) registration status.
The previous owner purchased this Corvette in Portland, Texas in 1990 and imported it into Canada in 2001.The mechanical odometer now shows approximately 1200 miles however the total mileage is unknown. The seller purchased this C1 from the previous owner here, in an auction ending on August 8th 2021. Click HERE to view the previous listing. The seller has added approx. 500-kms since his purchase. The seller mentions the fiberglass body was repainted black during a prior ownership in approximately 1989. Undercarriage pictures are included in the gallery.
For US bidders this Corvette can be imported to the US duty-free as it was manufactured in the US and bears a VIN starting with “1”. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.
The 1961 model year featured an updated rear-end fiberglass section that was then carried forward into following “C2” generation. This update was said to have been inspired by the XP-700 Corvette show car at the time. The body features split-chrome bumpers, chrome grill, chrome trim along the coves, front wheel arches and windshield molding. Quad-headlights aim out the front of the fiberglass partition and quad taillights aim out the back. The wheels are 15” faux “knock-off” spinners and they are wrapped with “American Classic” white sidewall tires. A gold, dome shaped Corvette emblem is mounted on the rear trunk lid. The front fiberglass unibody is said to have been damaged and repaired twice under previous ownership and records of a repair are viewable in the gallery. Images depicting imperfections of paint cracking, paint chips and general body wear are viewable in the gallery’s “imperfections” category.
Several recent services were performed since the seller’s purchase, including the installation of a new electric ignition, spark plug wires, ignition coil, and valve cover gasket. Additionally, a new battery and leather seat were also installed. The cabin is finished in red upholstery on the dash, cluster, door cards and center console. The vinyl seats are said to have been re-upholstered and the carpet has also been replaced once before. Steering is managed by a red three-spoke steering wheel and the seller mentions the steering gear assembly, idler & pitman arms, tie-rod ends, stabilizer link kits have all been replaced under his ownership. Standard amenities include a heater, a manually operated air vent, a Wonderbar radio, red lap belts and an analog clock mounted in the center console. The gauge pod houses a 160-mph speedometer and coolant temp., oil pressure and battery voltage gauges are mounted underneath. The transmission was rebuilt in 2017 and the seller mentions it leaks small amounts of fluid if left undriven.
According to the previous owners, this Corvette's original engine was replaced in favor of a Chevrolet V8 327 cu in. engine. The prior owner also mentioned that the engine was blue-printed and balanced during assembly, however there are no documentation for the engine build. The V8 wears an updated Edelbrock “Torker” intake manifold and a Webber carburetor. Mated to the V8 is a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission putting power to the ground via a posi-trac 4.56:1 differential. Under previous ownership a brake overhaul was completed including front & rear brakes, wheel bearings and master cylinder. Various other maintenance and service records are included in the “Documents” category of the gallery.
