Description
This is a 1959 BMW Isetta 300 Convertible finished in beige with a tan interior and black soft-top. The Isetta is currently registered in the province of Ontario with an active and (Normal) registration status.
The Isetta underwent a meticulous restoration process, including the complete rebuilding of the engine, transmission, and chain case. The body remains with its original panels, as do the car's sheet-metal floors.
During the restoration, the car was stripped down to bare metal before being re-painted in its original beige color. Notably, this car is equipped with the rare deluxe tropical front door and a stainless steel luggage rack. All of the original chrome components, such as the front and rear Nerf bars and bumpers, have been re-chromed to their original glory.
This particular car is a 1959 Isetta 300 convertible, one of just 300 convertibles ever produced. It was manufactured in Germany, and German-built Isettas are renowned for their superior wiring systems and control indicators on the steering column, as well as their ATE brand brakes when comprared to the Uk-built examples.
The seller of this car has refinished it in a cream yellow shade, accentuated by chrome details. It features a retractable black roof panel and a rear soft top, both of which operate smoothly. The car is also equipped with chrome bumpers, sliding side windows, and a chrome luggage rack.
The car rides on steel 10" wheels with polished BMW covers, fitted with BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall fixed. It employs coil spring suspension in the front and leaf springs in the rear, with drum brakes providing stopping power.
For US bidders, this Isetta is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.
Inside the car, the three-spoke steering wheel frames a reverse-sweep 60-mph VDO speedometer. The odometer, displaying 36k-miles and has a five-digit reading.
The cabin can be accessed through a side-hinged front door and features a tan vinyl bench seat with matching piping, accompanied by matching interior panels and rubber mats.
Additional amenities include a heater, rearview mirror, chrome exit handle, rear parcel shelf, shifter mounted on the left wheelhouse, and map pockets.
Powering the car is a 298cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, originally rated at 13 horsepower and 13.6 lb-ft of torque. It incorporates a cooling fan to maintain optimal temperature and a battery situated beneath the bench seat. The car utilizes a four-speed manual transmission to transfer power to the rear wheels.
