Description
This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is a US-spec Pagoda acquired by the seller in 2022 from the widow of the late David Russel, a recent inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. David reportedly owned the car since the early 1980s. The car is finished in Grey Beige over Turquoise MB-Tex upholstery, powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. This 230SL comes with manufacturer’s literature, two sets of keys, records dating back to 1979, and a clean British Columbia registration.

The W113 SL, designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq, was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This car, finished in Grey Beige (Code: 716), was refinished under prior ownership. It features a body-colored Pagoda hardtop, a beige soft top, a chrome driver-side mirror, US-market headlights, and chrome bumpers.
The soft top was recently overhauled with OE-specification canvas material. The 14″ steel wheels, with body-colored hubcaps, are fitted with 195/75 Toyo Eclipse tires, with a spare stowed in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
The interior has been restored to factory specifications, including reupholstering all the carpeting with OE-quality turquoise materials. Photos of the interior refurbishment are included in the gallery. The rest of the interior is said to be original including the seats and door cards.
The rest of the interior features a color-coordinated dash pad and door panels, complemented by ivory and chrome trim, a heater, an analog clock, three-point seatbelts, and a factory radio delete option. A Nardi Torino wooden-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation, including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and vertically oriented auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 86k miles.

The original 2.3-liter M127 inline-six has been replaced with a rebuilt 2.5-liter M129 inline-six sourced from a similar generation 250SL. It features Bosch mechanical fuel injection, factory-rated at 170 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed floor-shifted automatic transmission. Recent service includes the installation of new brake hoses, a rebuilt shifter, oil changes and filter replacements, and a complete tune-up with Bosch plugs, cap and rotor, along with an electronic ignition supplied by Mercedes Source.
