Description
This is a 1988 Porsche 944S finished in black paint (paint code: 1041). This 944S is an original Canadian spec vehicle and it currently registered in Alberta, Canada. The seller mentions that the engine is free of any modifications and is in original factory specification. This 944 is an “S” example which was first introduced in 1987 and features a high-performance variant of the M44 engine found in the base 944. The seller mentions that this 944 was repainted its original color under a previous ownership to fix cosmetic issues. The seller mentions this 944 is free of any prior accidents or insurance claims. This 944S is offered for sale privately and it is located in Airdrie, AB. Highlights of the factory equipment include, “C36” option (rear bumper impact absorbers), “946” option (leather seat covers), “650” option (removable sunroof), “474” option (front/rear sport struts), “425” option (rear window wiper), “418” option (side moldings).
As previously mentioned the exterior of the 944S was repainted under a prior ownership and the exterior is free off any modifications. Features of the exterior include “pop-up” headlights, a power tilting and removable sunroof, widened front and rear fender arches, aerodynamic rear spats, a rear deck lid spoiler, a single-tipped muffler and a PORSCHE scripted rear trim piece.
This 944S is equipped with “Telephone dial” wheels that are given this nickname from the 5-hole design. These wheels measure 15” at all four corners and have a polished finish with Porsche crested center caps. Goodyear Eagle F1 tires are mounted at the front and Michelin Pilot HX tires are mounted in the rear.
The seller notes imperfections including some rock chips, scratches, tear in seat cover and crack on the rear spat. These are pictured in the gallery’s imperfections category.
The interior is trimmed in a black leather on the seats, door cards, steering wheel and shift boot. An aftermarket Alpine head-unit has been added to modernize the interior along with Alpine speakers and an amp mounted in the trunk. The seller mentions the original front speaker grills are included in the sale. Highlights of the amenities include A/C, power windows and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel.
The 4-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel fronts a mechanical cluster, with a 260km/h speedometer at the left and 7000 rpm tachometer on the right. The mechanical odometer shows approximately 148k kms.
The seller notes recent service including a water pump, timing belt, front and rear rotors and pads, wheel alignment. The seller mentions no rust present on the body panels.
Powering the 944S is a naturally aspirated M44 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine. This engine features the sixteen valve cylinder head, which is reminded on the fender badges and airbox with “16 Ventiler” inscriptions.
This dual overhead cam cylinder head was also the first ever to use this 4-valve per cylinder design. A Porsche engraved valve cover finishes the cylinder head of the engine. The M44 has a self-adjusting timing-belt tensioner which was revolutionary technology at the time of release.
