This is a 1966 Volkswagen Beetle finished in Pearl White (paint code #L87) over a black and grey interior. It is powered by a 1300cc H4 engine paired to a 4-speed manual transmission. The Volkswagen Beetle was manufactured by the German automaker from 1938 until 2003, and conceptualised at its release as a "car for the people" (Volkswagen literally means “people’s car” in German); a functional, affordable, and simple car that could traverse the country’s newly built Reichsautobahn road network. This Beetle convertible is currently registered in Alberta with a clean and (Normal) status. The seller purchased the car in Winnipeg, Manitoba and has added approx. 1000 kms during his ownership period, with the odometer currently reading approximately 80k-miles. The seller notes that this car was restored by its previous owner approx. 7 years ago.

For US bidders, this Beetle is directly importable without modification as it is EPA & DOT exempt being greater than 25 years old. For more information on transport/import please visit our Transport/Import page here.

This Beetle convertible has recessed round headlamps with turn signal lighting mounted on top of the fenders, a chrome front bumper with chrome overriders, and a chrome strip and Volkswagen emblem centering the hood. It has a curved windshield, and a black soft top with a glass rear window. The seller notes that this car has all of its original glass. Chrome is used on the running boards and along the beltline of the car. A chrome bumper with overriders is similarly found at the back, along with a chrome 1300 badge set at an angle on the left side of the trunk lid, denoting the size of the engine below, which is provided with air vents designed as horizontal slats. The licence plate is illuminated by an overhanging light and framed by extrusive oval tail lights with sharply defined edges. The Beetle rides on 5-spoke 16” Spirit of America wheels (for which two centre caps are missing, as noted by the seller) and Cooper tires. The seller notes that some paint chipping and surface rust is present, and the car is missing its metal VIN plate.

He further advises that there are some scratches on the chrome window bezels, the passenger door doesn’t open from the outside, the door lock and car horn are nonfunctioning, and the drivers side headlight and turn signals work intermittently.

The Beetle’s interior cabin features a body colour paint-matched dash with a fully functioning original transistor radio and a glove compartment. The seats are upholstered in grey knitted tape yarn with grey vinyl sides and piping. The front seats are sliding-adjustable and a bench seat is found in the back. A two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 90 mph VDO speedometer with an inset 5-digit odometer reading 80k-miles. A mechanical fuel level gauge is situated to the right, though the seller advises that this gauge is faulty. The Beetle comes equipped with a compressed air windshield washer accompanied by a Schrader valve located on the washer fluid tank indicating its pressure level. The seller advises that the floor is in good condition and absent of rust.

The 1300 cc engine was first available in 1966, and brought with it an increased power rating of 50 horsepower, and 69 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and installed with new mounts. The claimed top speed is 80 mph, with a zero-to-60 mph of 22 seconds, on par with the Ford Falcon of the day. The seller advises that this Beetle can run at 60 mph without any issue, and that the transmission shifts smoothly. The engine comes equipped with a new single-barrel Solex carburetor with an electric automatic choke, and a new clutch, both installed by Concept1 in Calgary, which specialises in aircooled VW engines.
