Blog: 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo

This 1989 Porsche 944 coupe is being sold out of Elora, ON for $49,995 with only 33,505 kms. Finished in Zermatt Silver Metallic over black leather and vinyl upholstery, it includes an upgraded Vitesse MAF sensor and Bosch fuel pressure regulator, aftermarket VDO oil temperature sensor and turbocharger boost gauges, and a contemporary Blaupunkt CD player head unit with micro USB connectivity and aux input. Factory equipment includes electrically adjustable seats, electric windows, and an electric sunroof. It also comes with the original owners manual, a Porsche certificate of authenticity, and the original jack and air compressor. The vehicle was serviced with an oil and filter change recently, along with timing belt replacement. The clutch and engine mounts were replaced in 2015.

A 414 horsepower prototype of the 944 debuted at LeMans in 1981; a racing version dubbed the 924 GTP. It was created with an engine mounted at a 45 degree angle to the right, and a dual overhead camshaft with counter rotating balance shafts, which aided in weight distribution and smooth power delivery by reducing vibrations. It utilised a Bosch Motronic engine management system to control ignition timing, fuel injection, and boost pressure. In 1982, Porsche released the street legal version featuring the same balance shafts and management system, with horsepower reduced to 247.

This Series II 944 Turbo is equipped with Brembo 4-piston fixed calipers and 12-inch disc brakes modelled after the 911, and a Turbo S 2.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine sending power to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. A total of 113,070 Porsche 944s were made between 1982 and 1989, with only 1,385 reaching the Canadian market in 1989, making this modern classic a rare find.
