Blog: Low km 1991 Mercedes-Benz 500SL

This 1991 Mercedes 500SL is being offered by a seller in Burnaby, BC for $13,999 with only 77,000 original kms. This RWD 4-speed automatic V8 convertible is finished in Lkw Blau and comes with a soft top, hard top, and cover.

Produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1989 to 2001, the Mercedes 500SL was unveiled at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show, and was runner-up behind the Citroen XM for European Car of the Year. The seller shares that this 500SL is eligible for collectors plate, and was driven locally in the BC summers.

With the R129, Mercedes-Benz introduced an electronically controlled damping system, a hidden, automatically extending roll-over bar, and power windows, mirrors, and seats. It was the first passenger vehicle to have seat belts integrated into the seats instead of anchoring to the floor, B-pillar, and transmission tunnel. This 500SL has a grey leather interior.

Mercedes-Benz’ M119 engine model is sturdy and dependable with good longevity for diligent owners, providing 322 hp @ 5500 rpms with its 5-litre 32-valve DOHC V8. With the R129 500SL, Mercedes-Benz front-suspension array used independent damper struts, separate coil springs and gas-pressurised shock absorbers, triangular lower control arms with anti-dive geometry and a stabiliser bar. The rear suspension has independent 5-arm multilink with separate single-tube gas-pressurised shock absorbers and coil springs, geometry for anti-lift, anti-squat and alignment control, and a stabiliser bar. Brakes are 2-circuit hydraulic power-assisted 4-wheel discs with ABS. Being in good condition with low mileage, this 500SL is sure to increase in value.
