Blog: Supercharged 1970 MGB GT

This 1970 UK import MGB GT finished in Flame Red is being offered by a seller in Montreal, QC for $21,500 with 10,000 kms on the odometer. This year of the MGB was the only to produce the unique split rear chrome bumper. With a unitary frame structure and a fixed roof, the MGB GT was a seminal hatchback, providing the utility of a station wagon in the style of a coupe with 2 + 2 seating.

Exterior features include a recessed grille with a chrome surround and a central red MG badge. The vehicle has undergone an electric fan conversion and an engine rebuild. The all-black vinyl interior is Dynamat insulated and features a Vintage USA radio.

British Motor Corporation’s MGB was produced from 1962 to 1980. In 2019, Road and Track called the GT one of  “16 of Pininfarina’s Most Beautiful Designs That Aren’t Ferraris.” Motor Biscuit describes the MGB GT as “the better-looking Mazda Miata of the late sixties and early seventies.” It is loved for being compact and sprightly, and 1970 is a highly desirable year for investors in the model.

This MGB GT’s 1.8-liter inline-four cylinder BMC B-Series engine has been equipped with a Moss supercharger and paired to a Vitesse 5-speed transmission. It has also been fitted with an Aldon Amethyst mappable ignition system with boost detection, and lowered 1.5” with sprint front coil springs and polyurethane bushings. Highly modified and finely tuned, this MGB GT is just waiting for the right tinkerer to come along.
