Okotoks Show & Shine 2023

On August 20, 2023, the annual Okotoks Show & Shine, now hosted at Dawgs Stadium instead of downtown, was in full swing. The stadium parking lot filled up rapidly, reflecting its enduring popularity among southern Alberta residents, some travelling over 100 km to be a part of this one-day extravaganza.

Due to a lack of volunteers this season, this year's Show and Shine event was relocated from downtown Okotoks to Dawgs Stadium. However, the change in venue allowed for a more streamlined coordination of attending vehicles, thanks to the stadium's condensed lot.

The display of vehicles showcased an impressive range, from Hutch’s red striped Gran Torino to a group of modern HEMI and Hellcat-powered Mopars. Nearly 400 unique cars and trucks added to the breathtaking spectacle throughout the stadium venue.

The show organisers contributed to various Okotoks non-profit organisations. The Kinsman Club spearheaded the 50/50 draw, with proceeds benefiting causes such as the Rowan House, Foothills Hospice and the United Church Kids Lunch program, among many others. Additionally, the event featured a “Fill A Truck For The Food Bank” initiative, collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Okotoks Food Bank.

Despite the absence of the downtown location, the Okotoks Show and Shine continued to be a source of enjoyment for the attendees. The diverse collection of cars on display and the fundraising by organisers helped make the event an outstanding success.

Until next time, go out and volunteer with a local car show, because who doesn’t love seeing specialty cars for an entire day?
