The Cougar is Mercury’s highest selling nameplate, spanning eight generations in a 34 year production run, throughout which the car was continually assembled in North American manufacturing plants. At the release of the seventh gen Cougar in 1989, Mercury marketed it as their flagship coupe, and by 1990 it was their sole two-door offering. The seventh generation Cougar features wraparound headlamps and taillamps, body coloured side mouldings, a long hood, and a short rear overhang.
