The Volkswagen Beetle was manufactured by the German automaker from 1938 until 2003, and conceptualised at its release as a car for the people (Volkswagen literally means “people’s car” in German); a functional, affordable, and simple car that could traverse the country’s newly built Reichsautobahn road network under the direction of the National Socialist Party in power at that time.
