Blog: A 1975 MGB - How Quickly Things Change

This 1975 MGB Roadster is being offered by a seller in Toronto for $9,450 with 63,290 kms on the odometer. It is finished in Sunset Orange over a black leather two-seat interior.

1975 tends to be thought of as the year the government wrecked the MGB, hence the low price tag on this convertible. US-market MGB’s were de-tuned to meet emission standards, ride height was increased by an inch to bring the height of the headlamps up to code, and they were fitted with gawky steel-reinforced rubber bumpers. Though the MGB from 1975 onward was a more solidly built car, all of the changes resulted in lower horsepower and poorer handling, which was counterbalanced somewhat by the addition in the same year of servo-assisted power brakes. In its eighteen-year production run, the British Motor Corporation manufactured more than a half a million MGB’s.

This manual MGB Roadster sends power to the rear wheels by way of a 1.8-liter BMC B-series inline-four cylinder engine paired to a Laycock Type LH Overdrive 4 synch gearbox. Another regrettable emissions detraction; from 1975 on, a single Zenith-Stromberg carburetor replaced the twin SU carburetors utilised by preceding MGB’s.
