A Gran Suburban

In 1977, the Chrysler Corporation made a significant decision: it would mark the end of an era with the final year of production for the iconic full-size C-Body platform shared by the Plymouth and Dodge divisions. This platform had gained notoriety for its use in the mid-1970s as a foundation for the iconic police cars such as the Fury and Monaco. Perhaps the most memorable of these vehicles was featured in the 1980 film, “The Blues Brothers.” Although the car featured today may not be a vintage police cruiser, it stands as a true testament to time, as it continues to exist in all its original glory, even 46 years after rolling off the assembly line.

This 1977 Plymouth Gran Fury Sport Suburban is a true piece of history, proudly displaying its original Straight Blue Sunfire Metallic paint and retaining the original vinyl wood grain siding. It serves as a heartfelt reminder to the cherished family wagons of that era.

The interior features a harmonious matching vinyl blue upholstery with subtle wood grain accents. This car is equipped with all the bells and whistles, boasting power windows, air conditioning and even a Chronometer clock, among numerous other factory luxuries. The only item that didn’t make it onto this auto’s option list was the third-row seating. However, the owner, Andrzej, quickly discovered that this didn’t matter to their furry little co-pilot, who developed a deep affection for sitting in the back with the tailgate window down.

This stunning station wagon has called the Calgary area home throughout its existence. It was originally purchased at Varsity Chrysler in 1977 and has never lived far from its original home. Andrzej assumed the role as the Fury’s second caretaker for two years, using it for various activities including kayaking trips, grocery runs, and embarking on family adventures. However, the ownership between Andrzej and the Fury ended a mere few hours later, when a prospective buyer interested in the automobile, came and made an offer he couldn’t refuse, and  the new caretaker now added the fantastic wagon to his private collection.

The 1977 model year signalled the conclusion of the C-Body Plymouth lineup, yet it didn’t deter some wonderfully optioned models from leaving the factory. This particular Gran Fury stands as a shining example, boasting a rich array of options and an astonishing level of preservation, a testament to the love and attention it has received from its guardians over the past five decades. As an owner of a 1974 Fury III, a fellow C-Body, this wagon was an absolute delight to document and witness in person.
