In late August 2023, Formula Auctions granted me a remarkable opportunity: a chance to explore Oshawa, Ontario, and share the captivating tales of classic cars from the region. My journey began with the Kars On King kickoff show and shine, an enormous event that transformed downtown Oshawa into a stunning display of vintage automobiles. Amidst this automotive spectacle, one vehicle that stood out was a “hi-riding” 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 street machine. This exceptional classic was showcased in a dedicated spot, radiating its vibrant colour and chrome throughout the beloved event.

The Z/28 immediately captured my gaze with its striking classic flame paint job, a heavily raked stance complemented by oversized tires, and the gleaming chrome accents that adorned this vintage street machine. It exuded an aesthetic reminiscent of the film Hi-Riders (1978). The Camaro was brimming with charming old-school touches, from its Corvette-inspired Holley side pipes to the chrome bug catcher air scoop. However, intertwined with these nostalgic details were a few modern additions that heightened the car's overall allure.

The 4-speed manual transmission underwent an upgrade to a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, providing an additional gear to enhance both speed and driving comfort. Moreover, the factory sound system received a modern overhaul, featuring enhancements such as an 800 Watt RMS amplifier, a set of half a dozen tweeters, and an Alpine radio deck, all working in perfect harmony to deliver an exceptionally powerful audio experience.

Beneath the hood, the heart of this wild street machine was none other than the renowned and cherished Chevy 383 Stroker, complete with double hump heads. This small block powerhouse was adorned with a combination of Edelbrock and Holley performance components, featuring matching yellow accents to complement the exterior flame paint job. From the inside out, every detail of this Camaro was meticulously crafted, creating a truly awe-inspiring spectacle that was an absolute delight to behold.
In 2023, I had the privilege of attending the Kars On King event in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. This remarkable single-evening event transformed the downtown core into a bustling showcase adorned with hundreds of classic cars. Amidst this automotive extravaganza, one vehicle, in particular, stood out: a 1979 Camaro Z/28 street machine. Its eye-catching Hi-Rider aesthetic, fiery paint job, and imposing side pipes made it an unforgettable muscle car that captured the hearts of attendees from all corners of the show.
